We love when people combine passion, cause, and creativity. 🙌🏻 It's super Tuesday, and as some of you know we operate out of Richmond, Virginia so we’re reflecting on our ability to have a say in what happens in your country. In honor of that, we wanted to share an example of creativity and cause that we found particularly compelling.
The words “No way, Equinor” are appearing on Australian beaches. This is a message to the Norwegian oil giant Equinor to drop its plans to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight on the 10th anniversary of Australia’s biggest oil spill disaster, Montara.
(Australia): Norwegian oil giant Equinor announced it abandoned its $200 million dollar plan to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight, stating the controversial project did not make “commercial sense.” The original proposal sparked protests last year from those opposed to fossil fuel extraction in a marine wilderness area.⠀
Equinor is the third major oil company to abandon plans to drill in the bight, following BP and Chevron.
